Marching Women Workshop
As part of the SENSE ational Aireys Festival, join us for a day of community, connection and creative expression through clay on Sunday 31st May 2026.
Under the guidance of ceramic artist Ri Van Veen, participants will hand-build their own Marching Women sculptures. No experience is necessary. With over 20 years experience, Ri will demonstrate techniques and provide individual support, enabling you to create up to two Marching Woman figures.
Morning session
The day begins with forming the Marching Women sculptures. Once the initial forms are complete, they will rest and firm up before final detailing.
Lunch break: Enjoy a beautiful lunch from a local cafe (at a cost to be confirmed) or bring your own.
Afternoon session
In the afternoon, you’ll return to your sculptures to refine, finesse, and inscribe them with your initials.
Following the workshop, the sculptures will dry for several weeks before being bisque fired. Ri will then glaze each piece in your chosen glaze and Raku fire them. After post-firing reduction and cleaning, your finished Marching Women will be carefully packed and returned to you approximately four weeks after the workshop.
What to bring:
Your enthusiasm and an apron.
With thanks to AiTTA and AAH Art and Healing Studio for their support of this workshop.
